A multi-award winning engineer, mixer, producer, editor and educator, Wolpert has recorded some of the biggest names in today's music industry, in addition to a successful career working in film and television.
Wolpert’s most recent award is the Recording Engineer of the Year Juno Award for Holly Cole’s “Shade”. That makes three awards in this category as well one for co-producing Loreena McKennitt’s THE MASK AND MIRROR. He has engineered seven other albums for the incredibly successful and talented Ms. McKennitt, winning 3M Visionary Awards for THE VISIT and THE MASK AND MIRROR along the way. He has also done The Cowboy Junkies last several releases including EARLY 21ST CENTURY BLUES, Anne Murray’s new releases I’LL BE SEEING YOU, and the soon to be released DUETS CD produced by Phil Ramone and featuring Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan and Jan Arden, Jimmy Webb's 10 EASY PIECES and Great Big Sea’s THE HARD AND THE EASY, GREAT BIG DVD, UP and ROAD RAGE. He also recorded, mixed and edited the soundtrack to BLUES BROTHERS 2000 for Paul Shaffer, which included performances by James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks, Johnny Lang and Aretha's re-recording of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Other releases include 10 EASY PIECES by Jimmy Webb, Kris Kristofferson's THE AUSTIN SESSIONS, The Misfits for George Romero’s film Bruiser, and a new collection by legendary songwriter Barry Mann with guest appearances by Carole King, Bryan Adams, Daryl Hall, Deana Carter and many others. Nominations include the Grammy for Latin Jazz Artist Dafnis Prieto, Gemini Awards for Best Sound for Carol Welsman’s LANGUAGE OF LOVE featuring Herbie Hancock, Oscar Castro-Neves and Brazilian superstar Djavan and WORDS TO MUSIC THE CANADIAN SONGWRITER’S HALL OF FAME with James Taylor, Michael Bublé, Measha Brueggergosman in tribute to Joni Mitchell as well as The Maple Leaf Blues Awards nomination for Producer of the Year for Carlos del Junco’s BLUES MONGREL. Recently released is the epic work CONStaNTiNOPLE by Christos Hatsis featuring The Gryphon Trio and Manteca’s new release ONWARD. Currently Wolpert is producing the debut release of The Canadian Tenors. Other works include YOU KNOW MY NAME for Turner and PRISONER OF ZENDA for Showtime, the series BEVERLY HILLS 90210, FOREVER KNIGHT and FRIDAY THE 13TH and the mini-series JOAN OF ARC, and David Woo’s mini-series MERLIN’S APPRENTICE and SON OF THE DRAGON for Hallmark, THE AUDREY HEPBURN STORY and HAVEN which received an Emmy nomination for Best Dramatic Score. Recently he mixed the live music broadcast for the JUNO AWARDS and THE CANADIAN SONGWRITER’S HALL OF FAME. Currently in production is the mini-series IRON ROAD with Sam Neal and Peter O’Toole. Always on the cutting edge of technology, Wolpert has been mixing in various surround formats for years. His recent credits include 5.1 mixes for the LONG JOURNEY HOME DVD by The Cowboy Junkies, the 6.1 mix for the IMAX SPACE STATION movie, the EMI DVD disc LUNCH AT ALLAN’S featuring Ian Thomas, Mark Jordan, Cindy Church and Murray McLaughlin, the DVD-Audio version of Anne Murray’s latest release I’LL BE SEEING YOU and the NO JOURNEY’S END DVD as well as NIGHTS FROM THE ALHAMBRA for Loreena McKennitt, the DVD of Peter Buffet’s SPIRIT SEVENTH FIRE, PUBLICITY STUNT for hip-hop master K-OS, and the soon to be released BOWFIRE with Bob Ezrin. Always involved in the advancement of sound recording and mixing, Wolpert's recent educational endeavors include designing the Bachelor of Contemporary Music Degree in Music Production for Humber Applied University in Toronto, Canada. He continues to teach a course in Music Mixing for the Master of Music in Sound Recording at McGill University in Montreal and has recently been a guest lecturer at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Currently he is a member of the Platinum Engineer’s Panel of the Audio Engineering Society. A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, Wolpert went on to earn his Masters of Music Degree in Sound Recording (Tonmeister) from McGill University in 1982. Upon graduation, he joined Inception Sound in Toronto and during his 11 years there, helped build it from one eight-track studio into two 48-track studios. He then became the chief engineer at McClear Digital Recording and Post Production Studios, a five-studio multi-format recording and mixing facility. Currently he is the owner of the largest studio in Toronto, KICK AUDIO and DESERT FISH, his custom mixing facility.
